Bobby Joe Kolars 1936 - 2009 Lawrence
Funeral services for Bobby Joe “Bob” Kolars, 72, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Kolars died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Wyndam Place Senior Residence in Lawrence.
He was born Nov. 10, 1936, in Lawrence, the son of Joe J. and Bertha Lisher Kolars.
Mr. Kolars served in the U.S. Air Force Special Forces during the Korean War. He attended Kansas University, majoring in political science.
He was a personal trainer for the Lawrence Athletic Club and also worked as an independent contractor.
Mr. Kolars was the executive vice president for the Electric Association of Missouri and Kansas/Kansas City, Mo., from 1986 to 1991. He was a member of the Missouri Merchants Manufacturers Association, International League of Electrical Associations and was vice chairman of the Ad Hoc Licensing Committee for Kansas City, Mo.
He was a member of American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14 in Lawrence and the Salvation Army Church. He volunteered with Toys for Tots and Operation Warmth.
Survivors include two daughters, Perri Kolars, Shawnee, and Gaylene Jones, Overbrook; a sister, Karen Curl, Lawrence; a brother, Keith, San Antonio; and two grandchildren.
Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary, where the family will meet friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. before services Monday.
The family suggests memorials to the Salvation Army Church, sent in care of the mortuary.
