Mike Belt 1955 - 2009 Lawrence
Funeral services for Charles Michael “Mike” Belt, 54, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Park Cemetery, Columbus.
Mr. Belt died Monday, April 6, 2009, at his home.
He was born April 5, 1955, in Columbus, the son of Charles Wallace and Kathryn Louise Leggett Belt.
Mr. Belt earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Kansas State University. He was a newspaper reporter, and had worked in Osawatomie and Kansas City, Kan., before beginning work at the Lawrence Journal-World. He had nine years of service with the Journal-World at the time of his death.
Survivors include two brothers, Bradley J. and wife Becky, Muskogee, Okla., and Kevin Joe and wife Debbie, Berryton; and a nephew, Chris Hunt.
Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. The family will meet friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Murdock Funeral Home in Columbus.
The family suggests memorials to the Lawrence Humane Society, sent in care of the funeral home.
