Helen Matus 1927 - 2009 Basehor
Funeral services for Helen Matus, 81, Basehor, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Quisenberry Funeral Home in Tonganoxie. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Basehor.
Mrs. Matus died Monday, March 30, 2009, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 19, 1927, in Viola, the daughter of John and Ella Nighswonger Johnson.
Mrs. Matus was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. She worked as a secretary for the Department of Defense at Fort Leavenworth, until retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Basehor Baptist Church.
She married Frank Matus on Oct. 20, 1951, in Roslyn, NY. He preceded her in death June 5, 1996.
Survivors include two sons, David Matus, Overland Park, and Frank Matus II, Kansas City, Kan.; three daughters, Peggy McAfee, Troy, Ill., Karen Loomis, Kansas City, Kan., and Susan Matus, Basehor; a brother, Gary Johnson, Pleasanton; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
