George R. Wampler 1929 - 2008 Oskaloosa

Oskaloosa - Funeral services for George R. Wampler, 79, Nortonville, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Mr. Wampler died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at his home.He was born June 9, 1929, in Dearborn, Mo., the son of Joseph and Emma Cardwell Wampler. He had lived in Nortonville since December 2007, moving from Winchester where he had lived for several years.Mr. Wampler served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1946 to 1949. He worked as a plumber for 21 years at Kansas University, retiring in 1991. He married Betty G. Gorden on July 24, 1949, in Denver. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include four sons, George "Ronnie," Kansas City, Kan., Joe, Oskaloosa, Randy, Winchester, and Jeff, Lawrence; five daughters, Barbara Reed and Diana Johnson, Oskaloosa, Geny George, Sabetha, Lori Harden, Valley Falls, and Linda Hubbard, Winchester; a brother, Lloyd, Lawrence; two sisters, Beulah Vesco, Rock Springs, Wyo., and Mary Rose Honecutt, Russellville, Ark.; 29 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by a granddaughter and a great-grandson.Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.The family suggests memorials to Jefferson County Friends of Hospice, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O.
