Doris D. Kilkenny

Mass of Christian Burial for Doris D. Kilkenny, 89, Baldwin City, will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Resurrection Cemetery in Wichita.Mrs. Kilkenny died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.She was born Feb. 9, 1919, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of Louis Blaine and Anna Mary Groenke Lett. She graduated from Benton High School in St. Joseph, Mo. After high school she moved to Port Arthur, Texas, where she worked at Woolworth’s. She returned to Kansas City, Mo., and worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell. In 1958 she moved to Wichita and worked with her husband in their pharmacy, Kilkenny Prescriptions, for more than 20 years. In 2003, she moved to Vintage Park in Baldwin City.She married Vincent Norbert Kilkenny on June 10, 1950, in St. Joseph, Mo. He preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 1991.Survivors include two daughters, Mary Kilkenny and husband Scott Bowser, Overland Park, and Patty Kilkenny, Lawrence; one sister, Norma Jean Lett, Montrose, Colo.; and three grandchildren, Evan, Colin and Rianin Bowser.The family will greet friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.The family suggest memorials to a charity of the donor’s choice, sent in care of the mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at warrenmcelwain .com, Subject: Kilkenny.
