Rinda H. Coon 1915 - 2008 Topeka
Memorial services for Rinda H. Coon, 93, Topeka, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel in Topeka. Private burial will be in Topeka Cemetery.Mrs. Coon died Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at her home.She was born June 23, 1915, in Alexandria, La., the daughter of Edd Clyde and Lorinda Sophia Abbott Honea.Mrs. Coon graduated from Copiah-Lincoln Junior College in Wesson, Miss., and received her bachelor of education degree from Washburn University.Mrs. Coon taught at Highland Park Central, Monroe Elementary and Quinton Heights schools in Topeka, retiring in 1978.She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority at Washburn University, Grace Episcopal Cathedral, Capital City China Painters, and several doll clubs including the Over the Rainbow Doll Club of Lawrence and Cherished Doll Club of Topeka, of which she was a founding member.She enjoyed painting china, making dolls, embroidery, crocheting, sewing and knitting. She married Virgil Ray Coon in 1941. He preceded her in death.Survivors include two daughters, Rinda Ann Oldham and husband Paul, and Sandra Carolyn Ricketts and husband Gary; and a grandson, Jason Paul Oldham.A son, Keith David Coon, and a sister, Alice Dunnam, died earlier.The family will meet friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. before services Wednesday at the funeral chapel.
