Charles Edward Brennan

Graveside services for Charles Edward Brennan, 85, Fort Scott, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Scott. Military honors will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Olson Frary Burkhart Post 1165.Mr. Brennan died Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at his home. He was born July 23, 1923, in Picher, Okla., the son of Wesley and Julia Kellett Brennan. He graduated from Pittsburg High School. Mr. Brennan joined the U.S. Navy and served as a pharmacists mate on the USS Alabama during World War II. He later received a law degree from Washburn University.He worked for the Western Insurance Co. from 1952 until his retirement in 1986.Mr. Brennan was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Olson Frary Burkhart Post 1165 and a past member of the Elks Lodge.He married Ernestine Karnes on Sept. 4, 1951, in Topeka. She died in 1975.Survivors include a son Andrew, Lawrence; three daughters, Rosemary Brennan-Davis, Fort Scott, Julia Atkeisson, Lawrence, and Faith Brennan, Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Marie Ray, Arma; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cheney Witt Funeral Chapel in Fort Scott.
