Funeral services for Thomas R. "Russ" Jensen, 86, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.Mr. Jensen died Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.He was born Jan. 30, 1922, in rural Douglas County, the son of Andrew O. and Ethel Mae Hout Jensen.Mr. Jensen served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He was a grocer for Safeway stores and retired in 1984. He was a member of First Christian Church of Lawrence, American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14 and the Association of Retired Safeway Employees in Kansas City.He married Delma J. Hoover on Nov. 23, 1947, at Washington Creek Church in rural Douglas County. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, David, Topeka; a daughter, Deanna Old, Savannah, Mo.; four grandchildren, Aaron and Susan Old, Courtney Sanders and Jody Jensen; and two great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Jarin Sanders.He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister, an infant child and a grandson, Brandon Old.The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at the mortuary before the services.The family suggests memorials to Children's Ministries at First Christian Church or a charity of the donor's choice, sent in care of the mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at <a href="http://warrenmcelwain.com">warrenmcelwain.com</a>, subject: Jensen.
