Raymond Lloyd Newton

Memorial services for Raymond Lloyd Newton, 88, Baldwin City, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Baldwin City.Mr. Newton died Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 29, 1920, in Plattsmouth, Neb., the son of Orville and Maude Bourquin Newton.Mr. Newton served in the U.S. Coast Guard for more than 20 years and retired in 1962. He worked on lighthouses on the West Coast and on a buoy tender on the Mississippi River in Keokuk, Iowa. He then worked for Douglas County Road & Bridge as a dispatch officer and retired in 1982. He was a member of the Mo-Kan Antique Power Association Club.He married Ruby D. Athey on April 11, 1946, in Reno, Nev. She survives, of the home. Other survivors include a daughter, Andrea, of the home; four brothers, Harold, Leroy and Donald, all of Omaha, Neb., and Allen, Burlington, Iowa; and two sisters, Wilma Burnett of Garland, Texas, and Alice Dahir, Omaha. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home before the services.
