Neva Esther Baum Flottman

Funeral services for Neva Esther Baum Flottman, 95, Humboldt, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at First United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.Mrs. Flottman died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at Medicalodges in Eudora.She was born Nov. 28, 1912, 5 miles west of Humboldt, the daughter of Charles Edward and Rosa Myrtle Beck Baum. Mrs. Flottman was a farmer’s wife and homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Humboldt, United Methodist Women’s Quilt Club, Iola Beauceant Lodge and Trailriders Camping Club. She and her second husband, Phil, belonged to the Ozark Travelers Camping Club. She had made at least 75 quilts.She married Otto Givin Gurwell on March 26, 1934. He died Dec. 31, 1971. She married Philip Hines Flottman on May 22, 1976. He died Feb. 18, 1996.Survivors include a nephew, Robert Alton Reed and wife Barbara, California; a brother-in-law, Clayton Gurwell and wife Sue, Topeka; two stepsons, Wayne Flottman and partner Jim Dawson, Torrance, Calif., and Larry Flottman and wife Vernis, Lawrence; a stepdaughter, Judy Olson and husband Rick, Howard; 11 stepgrandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death her parents; a sister, Violet; and a stepdaughter, Nancy Flottman Blanchard.Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Penwell-Gabel Humboldt Chapel.The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church of Humboldt or the Heart of America Hospice in Lawrence, sent in care of the chapel, 908 Central St., Humboldt, KS 66748.Online condolences may be sent at www.penwellgabel.com.
