Lowell I. Henderson

Funeral services for Lowell I. Henderson, 70, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Cremation will follow.Mr. Henderson died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at his home.He was born March 20, 1938, in New Burnside, Ill., the son of Charles E. and Mae Dalton Henderson. He attended schools in St. Louis. He moved to Eudora in 1966 and to Lawrence in 2001.Mr. Henderson owned and operated the Jayhawk Oil service station in Eudora for 22 years. He then worked at Kmart Distribution Center for 16 years. After his retirement he worked for Laidlaw Transit and Kincaid Coach. He was a past president and 40-year member of Eudora Lions Club and a member of the Lawrence Coin Club.He married Shirley E. Dieker on July 23, 1966, in Westphalia. She survives, of the homeOther survivors include a son, Danny, Lawrence; a daughter, Dawn Grosdidier, Lenexa; his stepfather, Cecil Gregory and wife Alberta, Manhattan; a half-brother, Chuck, Mississippi; and three grandchildren, Miquel Brown, and Claire and Zachary Grosdidier.He was preceded in death by two sons, Darrin, in 1967, and David, in 1968; a brother, Owen; and a half-brother, Gary.Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care or Eudora Lions Club, sent in care of the funeral home.Online condolences may be sent at rumsey-yost.com.
