D. J. Burns 1949 - 2008 Tonganoxie
Funeral services for D.J. Burns, 59, Tonganoxie, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Tonganoxie United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Hubbel Hill Cemetery in Tonganoxie.Mrs. Burns died Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.She was born July 30, 1949, in Leavenworth, the daughter of Henry and Irma Jean Smith Johnson. Mrs. Burns worked as administrative assistant for the Wyandotte County District Court. She was also a part-time Tonganoxie police officer and a dispatcher for the Leavenworth County Sheriff Department. She was a member of Jarbalo United Methodist Church, an auxiliary member of Tonganoxie Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9271 and American Legion Post 23. She was also a member of the Leavenworth County Veterans Day Parade committee and Tonganoxie F.F.A. Alumni. She married Larry Burns on Feb. 22, 1992, in Leavenworth. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Jason Johnson and wife Nicki, Emporia, and David Rupp and wife Amanda, Fort Campbell, Ky.; three daughters, Stacy Lister and husband Ryan, Baldwin City, Jessica Karten and husband David, Perry, and Meghan Powell and husband Jay, Tonganoxie; four brothers, Jim Johnson and wife Nancy, Honolulu, Gene Johnson and wife Dorothy, Port Orchard, Wash., Gary Johnson and wife Veronica and Dale Johnson, all of Leavenworth; a sister, Wanda Johnson, Fort Collins, Colo.; five grandchildren; and a large extended family.The family will receive friends 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Quisenberry Chapel in Tonganoxie.Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or National Kidney Foundation, sent in care of the Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O.
