Mary Augusto 1939 - 2008 Topeka
Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Augusto, 69, Berryton, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Topeka. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery in Topeka.Mrs. Augusto died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at her home.She was born April 7, 1939, in Hutchinson, the daughter of T.C. and Lucia Hernandez Martinez. She graduated from Lewis High School and attended Salt City Business College in Hutchinson. She lived in Hutchinson from 1957 to 1972 and in Salina from 1972 to 1984. She moved to Topeka in 1984.Mrs. Augusto worked at the Phillips News Service in Hutchinson, the Saline County Sheriff's office and then Conseco Inc. until she retired in 2002. She was a member of the Salina Sacred Heart School Board and Salina GI Forum. She was a member of Our Lady Of Guadalupe Church and LULAC Counsel No. 11071. She married Antonio Augusto on April 23, 1960, in Hutchinson. He survives. Other survivors include two sons, Anthony J. and John S. Augusto, both of Lawrence; two daughters, Monica L. Augusto, Topeka, and Linda V. Anguiano, Berryton; three sisters, Eleanor Navarro, Beatrice Almanza and Jesse "Jay" Viegra, all of Hutchinson; 13 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.Mrs. Augusto was preceded in death by twin daughters, Gloria and Annette Augusto, in 1962; and three brothers, Joseph, Concho and Raymond Martinez. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. A parish rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. The family suggests memorials to the Mary Augusto Memorial Fund, sent in care of Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604.
