Betty Jane Houk 1919 - 2008 Lawrence
Funeral services for Betty Jane Houk, 89, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Stull Cemetery.Mrs. Houk died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.She was born July 5, 1919, in Lawrence, the daughter of John and Gertrude Strahan Christy. She attended Lawrence schools and graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in Lawrence.Mrs. Houk was a homemaker. She was a member of Stull United Methodist Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary and Retired Eagles. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed painting ceramics.She married Russel Houk on April 17, 1940, in Stull. He died in 1983.Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Curran and husband Donald, Lawrence, and Carol Richter and husband Henry, Holton; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.The family suggests memorials to the American Lung Association, sent in care of the funeral home.Online condolences may be sent at <a href="http://www.rumsey-yost.com">rumsey-yost.com</a>.
