Anne Marie Strafuss

Mass of Christian Burial for Anne Marie Strafuss, 78, Lawrence, will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Chapman.Mrs. Strafuss died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at her home after a brief battle with cancer.She was born Oct. 22, 1929, in Algona, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Agnes Schoemann Scanlan. She grew up in Chapman and graduated from St. John’s School of Nursing in Salina in 1950. Mrs. Strafuss worked as a nurse at Stormont-Vail in Topeka and St. Mary’s Hospital in Manhattan. She also volunteered for many years as a hospice nurse.She married Dr. Albert C. Strafuss on Aug. 16, 1954, in Chapman. He died May 28, 2006.She also was preceded in death by four brothers, Danny, Dick, Tom and Phil.Survivors include four daughters, Paula Strafuss, Rice Lake, Wis., Kathleen Strafuss and Patricia Bauerband, both of Houston, and Mary Strafuss, Kansas City, Kan.; a son, Thomas Strafuss, Dallas; two sisters, Mary Irene Easum, Lawrence, and Elaine Winterscheidt, Leavenworth; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, where the family will receive friends until 8:30 p.m. Friday.
