Anna Mae Layman

Funeral services for Anna Mae Layman, 83, Kansas City, Mo., will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. James Lutheran Church in Kansas City, Mo. Mrs. Layman died Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, in Liberty. She was born May 23, 1925, in Brookville, Kan. She was raised in Brookville and completed high school and a year of college. She was a longtime resident of the Kansas City area.Mrs. Layman taught in a one-room school house in rural Kansas. She was a homemaker and was active in St. James Lutheran Church and the Christian Women’s Club. She enjoyed cooking, hosting gatherings for her family and friends, sewing, gardening, caring for her flowers and playing the piano and saxophone.She married Charles M. Layman Jr. They shared 56 years of marriage. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Layman was also preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Marcia. Survivors include two sons, Steve and wife Linda, Lawrence, Kan., and Craig; a daughter, Joyce; and a brother, David Bieber, Lawrence; two grandchildren, Shannon and Shawn; and two great-grandchildren, Jake and Reese Layman. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons White Chapel Funeral Home in Gladstone, Mo.
