Great Bend – Funeral services for Sara Loneita Haney Barry, 83, Great Bend, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Great Bend. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Great Bend.Mrs. Barry died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at her home.She was born May 16, 1925, in rural Sedgwick County, the daughter of Morris D. “Dutch” and Cora Fick Haney.She attended rural schools in Sedgwick and Cowley counties and high school in Great Bend, where she graduated in 1942 as a member of the National Honor Society. She attended Southwestern College in Winfield for a year.Mrs. Barry worked as a clerk typist at Boeing Airplane Co., an oil well drilling company in Great Bend, a bookkeeper and office manager for an oil well servicing company, an oil lease operator and as a bookkeeper at the Great Bend Petroleum Club for 19 years.She later worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for many other businesses.She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Argonne Post 180 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the Barton County Desk and Derrick Club for more than 50 years. She was on the Board of Directors for Barton County Youth Care. She was a genealogist and belonged to the Barton County Genealogical Society.Mrs. Barry married Vernon Junior Barry on Jan. 2, 1949. He died May 30, 1994.She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter and son.Survivors include a daughter, Susan L. Miller, Lawrence; three grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to Barton County Youth Care, 2212 Forest Ave., Great Bend, KS 67530.Charter Funerals in Great Bend is in charge of arrangements.
