Dorothy A. Norris 1917 - 2008 Independence, Mo.
Memorial services for Dorothy A. Norris, 91, Independence, Mo., will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Groves in Independence, Mo.Mrs. Norris died Sunday, Oct. 19, at the Groves. She was born July 17, 1917, in rural Leavenworth County, Kan., the daughter of Herbert C. and Clara Mae Green Nunemaker. She graduated from high school in Lawrence, Kan. She lived in the Independence area until 1947, when she moved to the Lawrence area. She returned to Independence in 1995.Mrs. Norris was an active member in Community of Christ and served on the Women's Commission, as women's leader, Light of Life adviser, Kaw Valley District and Lawrence branch historian, and in the work at Chihowa Retreat Center. She was also active in La Sertoma and the Knife and Fork Club, taught English as a second language, and volunteered at the Watkins Community Museum of History and Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Norris married Claude V. Norris in 1937 in Lawrence. He preceded her in death.She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marguerite Pettengill; a brother, Eugene Nunemaker; and two grandsons, Tommy Waddell and Ryan Norris.Survivors include three daughters, Carol Vincent, Independence, Mo., Linda Kohlman and husband Dave, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Margie Darling and husband Vernon, Oak Grove; two sons, Larry Norris and wife Sharon, Independence, Mo., and Jim Norris and wife Diane, Overland Park, Kan.; a brother, Herbert Nunemaker and wife Helen, Topeka, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Groves before the services and from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at University Community of Christ in Lawrence.The family suggests memorials to Groves Community Hospice, 1515 W.
