Miner Dow Guthrie 1928 - 2008 Tulsa, Okla.
Funeral services for Miner Dow Guthrie, 80, Tulsa, Okla., will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Guthrie died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at SouthCrest Hospital in Tulsa after a brief illness. He was a longtime Lawrence resident and had recently moved to Tulsa.He was born April 29, 1928, in Chicago, the son of Dow and Lucille Guthrie. He grew up in Kansas and graduated from Washburn University in Topeka.He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, and attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant.Mr. Guthrie began his career with Ford Motor Co. in Kansas City, and was in the automotive industry for more than 30 years. He moved to Lawrence in 1971, and in partnership with Lionel G. Turner owned and operated Turner Chevrolet. He served as general manager until they sold the business in 1989. He was a member of Westside Presbyterian Church for 17 years and First Presbyterian Church for the past seven years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Automobile Association of Lawrence and the Cosmopolitan Club. He was a supporter of Kansas University athletics.Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Isabella F. Guthrie, Tulsa; two sons, Greg Polly, Austin, Texas, and Gordon Polly and wife Colene, Broken Arrow, Okla.; two daughters, Pam Schultz and husband Eric, Eudora, and Sharman Palos and husband Joe, Richardson, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dallas, and a son, Preston Polly.The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.Online condolences may be sent at <a href="http://www.rumsey-yost.com">rumsey-yost.com</a>
