Frances M. Larson

Services for Frances M. Larson, 87, Wichita, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Kansas Masonic Home Chapel in Wichita. Burial will be at 3 p.m. today in Highland Cemetery in Iola.Miss Larson died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, at the Kansas Masonic Home in Wichita.She was born Dec. 2, 1920, in Iola, the daughter of Oscar Dan and Georgia Larson. She was a graduate of Iola Junior College and Chillicothe Business College. Miss Larson worked for the Farmers and Bankers Life Insurance Company and in the personnel department at Boeing during World War II. She then worked at First Federal Savings and Loan, where she started as a general office worker and was elected the first woman officer, assistant secretary, in 1951. She also served as assistant vice president and was elected to the office of vice president and secretary in 1970.After retiring from First Federal Savings and Loan, she went back to work for Wichita Federal Savings and Loan Association as administrative vice president for eight years and retired in 1990. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Rose Douglas Chapter of Eastern Star, Beta Sigma Phi and Executive Women International. She was recently recognized for 58 years of membership in the International Association of Administrative Professionals. She also served 17 years as a volunteer for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and was a member of its board of directors.Miss Larson enjoyed traveling and was an ardent sports fan, following Wichita State University’s basketball team and other sports. Survivors include a niece, Betty Jo Russell, Joplin, Mo., and nephew, Lynn Hoffmeier and wife Deanna, Lawrence; two great-nieces; and a great-nephew.
