Willard Eugene "Gene" Perry Topeka
Funeral services for Willard Eugene "Gene" Perry, 76, of Topeka, will be at 11 a.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel in Topeka. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Berryton.Mr. Perry died at his home. He was born March 7, 1932, in Coffeyville, the son of Willard and Avis Perry. He moved to Lawrence when he was in his early teens, and he lived most of his life in Lawrence and Topeka. Mr. Perry served in the Army for two years, stationed at Fort Riley. He graduated from Palmer School of Chiropractic in 1957. He practiced chiropractic for a few years in Yates Center. He later worked for 11 years for IBM, then went to work for the Santa Fe Railway for 20 years until his retirement Dec. 30, 1992. He received a degree for his ministry training through The Education for the Ministry at the University of the South. He preached as an interim pastor at several churches in Kansas over a period of 35 years. He served his last church, Bethel Community Church in Topeka, as associate pastor for 17 years. He retired from the ministry in September 1998. He married Barbara Winters on May 26, 1956, in Lawrence.
