Joe Bermudez Sr.

Mass of Christian Burial for Joe Bermudez Sr., 76, Topeka, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Topeka. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Topeka. Mr. Bermudez died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008.He was born Feb. 21, 1932, in Lawrence, the son of Felix and Dolores Rodriguez Bermudez. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Bermudez had coached baseball in the suburban league and helped with the church’s Fiesta for many years. He suffered from Parkinson’s disease for many years. He was an avid Kansas University fan.He married Eva Tetuan on April 5, 1952, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lawrence. She survives.Other survivors include four sons, Joe Jr. and wife Cindy Marie, John and wife Nancy, and Ray Anthony, all of Topeka, and Mario and wife Stephanie, Dardenne Prairie, Mo.; a daughter, Adela Riner and husband Troy, Topeka; Candy Campos, Topeka; three brothers, Ruven, Jesse and Israel; two sisters, Mickey Ramos and Rachel Lemus; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Rosa Jimenez and Maria Granados; and a brother, Tony Bermudez.Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where the family will greet them from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a parish rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. The family suggests that friends wear KU attire or colors to the services.Online condolences may be sent at www.kevinbrennanfamily.com
