Margaret E. Rumsey

Graveside services for Margaret E. Rumsey, 89, Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Rumsey died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at the Windsor in Lawrence.She was born Dec. 24, 1918, in Nevada, Mo., the daughter of H. Elliott and Gladys Bratton Ormsbee.Mrs. Rumsey was a homemaker. She worked as a secretary for McGrew Real Estate and Insurance during World War II and for The Kansas City Star during the late 1930s. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Lions Club Auxiliary, Lawrence Country Club, American Legion Auxiliary and Elks Lodge Auxiliary. She was also formerly active in the Alpha Kappa Lambda Mothers’ Club.She married Oscar B. Rumsey on Oct. 7, 1939, in Kansas City, Mo. He died April 1, 1987.Survivors include two sons, Jim Rumsey and wife Nancy, Lawrence, and Mike Rumsey, Fairfax, Va.; two grandchildren, Katherine “Kate” Baker and Sarah Walker; and two great-grandsons, Preston and Hunter Baker.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.The family suggests memorials to Douglas Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care, First Presbyterian Church or the Lawrence Humane Society, sent in care of the mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at www.warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Rumsey.
