Marie Hobath 1912 - 2006 Lawrence

Paid family tribute

Funeral services for Marie Hobath, 94, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Johns L. Ziegenhein & Sons Funeral Home in St. Louis. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in St. Louis. There will be a luncheon celebrating her life immediately following the service at the Bevo Mill Restaurant in St. Louis.Mrs. Hobath died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community, now Brandon Woods at Alvamar.She was born Feb. 5, 1912, in Union City, Tenn., the daughter of Harvey B. and Annette Woodfin Brown. She lived in St. Louis for most of her life.Mrs. Hobath owned a beauty shop, confectionery and a tavern until she retired in 1985.She was involved with the city and local political life and worked for the election board for more than 50 years.She was involved with and supported the Boys Club of St. Louis and many other local groups and organizations.She sang on the radio with her older sister, Lady Ruth, as a duo called the Calvert Sisters. She also enjoyed dogs.She married George Mahfood on March 1, 1938. They divorced in 1947. She married Joseph Hobath in 1948. He died in 1980.She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Lady Ruth Markey and Emma Sue Frenette; and a nephew, James B. Markey.Survivors include five nephews, Robert and Ron Frenette and Jim, Craig and John Markey; and a niece, Elaine Horton.
