Jimmy Ray Martin
Funeral services for Jimmy Ray Martin, 67, Lecompton, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lecompton United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Lecompton.Mr. Martin died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at Kansas University Hospital.He was born Feb. 26, 1941, in Fairbury, Neb., the son of Joseph Ray and Iva Lucille Duke Martin. He graduated from Fairbury High School in 1958.Mr. Martin served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1958 to 1961. He also worked at Hallmark in Lawrence for 41 years as a large die cut operator. He was a member of Perry American Legion Post No. 142 and Lecompton United Methodist Church.He married Martha Jeanene Hatcher on April 16, 1960, in Las Vegas. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Shawn Ray Martin, Lecompton; three daughters, Lorenda Stracke, Maryland, Janell Schrader, Perry, and Dawn Smoker, North Carolina; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.Friends may call at Lawrence Funeral Chapel after 1 p.m. Monday, where the family will greet them from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The family suggests memorials to the church, sent in care of the funeral chapel.Online condolences may be made at barnettchapeloaks.com.
