Orville E. Cearfoss

Centropolis — Graveside services for Orville E. Cearfoss, 78, Topeka, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Union Cemetery in Centropolis. Cremation is planned.Mr. Cearfoss died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.He was born Dec. 31, 1929, in Michigan Valley, the son of Isaac and Frances Clark Cearfoss. He grew up in Centropolis and graduated from Appanoose High School in 1948. He moved to Lawrence in 1954 and to Topeka in 1989. Mr. Cearfoss served as a private first class in the U.S. Army from July 22, 1952, to June 30, 1954, during the Korean War. He was a half-track gunner in Okinawa, Japan.He was a production worker for Farmland Industries. Mr. Cearfoss was a member of American Legion Post 58.He married Ruth Anna McCullough on July 15, 1961, in Miami, Okla. She died July 15, 2005.Mr. Cearfoss was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Alden “Ike.” Survivors include a brother, Darrell R. and wife, Mary, Ottawa; and three nieces, Janet Huddlestun, Diane Mankin and Lynda Leazure.
