Wilbur N. Hamer

Services for Wilbur N. Hamer, 89, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lawrence Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery in Odessa, Mo.Mr. Hamer died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at his home.He was born Aug. 20, 1919, in Sugar Creek, Mo., the son of Albert Turville and Della Laughlin Hamer.He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II. In 1953, the family moved to Douglas County, where he managed a large farm. He worked at Aeroquip in Lawrence and later retired, enjoying many years of fishing and travel.He married Georgia Mae Fizer on Feb. 12, 1939. She died in January 1991.Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Martin, Wamego, Vicky Hamer, Lafayette, Colo., and Crystal Hamer, Manhattan; four grandchildren, Karlene Varnadore, Tammy Kokenge and Kurtis and Kendra Dekat; two great-grandchildren, Rolland and Keegan Varnadore.Other survivors include his life partner, Mary Kellison, Lawrence; her son, Kenneth Kellison and wife Rachel, Overland Park; her daughter, Tara Coyle, Atlanta; and her grandchildren, Andrew and Shayla Kellison, Spencer and Hillary Doane, and Jack Coyle.
