Kathryn P. Minnis

Mass of Christian burial for Kathryn P. “Pat” Minnis, 88, Atchison, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Church in Atchison. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mrs. Minnis died Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at her home.She was born Nov. 19, 1919, in Ludlow, Mo., the daughter of William J. and Catherine Anderson McGinnis. She attended school in Dawn, Mo., graduating in 1937 from Dawn High School, where she had played basketball.She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and its Altar Society, the Daughters of Isabella, Mothers Club, Junior Guild and a charter member of the board of directors of the Atchison Catholic School Endowment, serving for a number of years as secretary.She married Dee Alexander Minnis Jr. on Dec. 2, 1939, in Chillicothe, Mo. He died Nov. 10, 1975.She was also preceded in death by two brothers, William J. McGinnis II and Everett “Mick” McGinnis, and five sisters, Claire Conway, Adalyn Nicholson, Geraldine Frike, Mary Bunton and Margie Stark.Survivors include three sons, Dee A. Minnis III and wife Jenny, St. Joseph, Mo., Michael J. Minnis and wife Deborah, Derby, and Donald J. Minnis and wife Virginia, Lawrence; three daughters, Jane Ann Biffinger and husband Roc and Joyce Nolan and husband Dan, all of Atchison, and Judy Proffitt and husband Roger, Lyons; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sisters- and brothers-in-law Margie McGinnis, Atchison, Emma McGinnis, Warrensburg, Mo., Kenneth and Jeanne Churchill, Chillicothe, Mo., Deke Stark, Dallas, and many nieces and nephews.A parish and Daughters of Isabella rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, after which the family will meet friends until 8:30 p.m. The family suggests memorials to Sacred Heart Church or Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired, sent in care of the funeral home, 208 N.
