Kenneth Maurice Beal

Funeral services for Kenneth Maurice Beal, 71, Lawrence, will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Elmwood Cemetery in Beloit.Mr. Beal died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.He was born Aug. 15, 1937, in Anderson, Ind., the son of Kenneth Earl and Lola Mae Stephenson Beal. He graduated from Bloomington High School in Bloomington, Ind. He graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1965 with a degree in industrial arts and received a master’s degree from Pittsburg State University in industrial arts education in 1971. He received a doctorate in education from Kansas University in 1978.Mr. Beal served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Lincoln, Neb. He worked as an industrial arts teacher in Fort Wingate, N.M., and as a mathematics and industrial arts instructor at Haskell Indian Junior College, now Haskell Indian Nations University. He was director of computer services at Avila College in Kansas City, Mo., and at Fort Scott Community College.He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence and the Jayhawk Kiwanis Club. He volunteered at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after he retired. He enjoyed genealogy, computers and dogs.He married Jane Ann Dunham on July 1, 1961, in Beloit. She died April 15, 1998.He was also preceded in death by his parents.Survivors include two sons, Michael, Lawrence, and David, Leawood.The family suggests memorials to the Brandon Woods Employee Recognition Committee, sent in care of the mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Beal.
