Roger B. Willis 1935 - 2008 Pittsburg
Memorial services for Roger B. Willis, 73, of Pittsburg, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at College Heights Methodist Church in Pittsburg. Inurnment will be at a later date.Mr. Willis died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at St. John's Regional Medical Center following a long illness.He was born Jan. 2, 1935, in Smith Center, the son of Homer Bryan and Lois Mildred Bruton Willis. He attended area schools and went on to graduate from Baker University with a degree in business. He was a longtime resident of Baldwin City.Mr. Willis served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Tripoli. He enlisted in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1958. He was a surety bondsman for the Travelers Insurance Company for 36 years until he retired in 1996. He attended College Heights Methodist Church in Pittsburg. He was a founding member and first president of the Sperry Galligar Audubon Society in Pittsburg. He was also a member of the Sunflower Kiwanis Club.Mr. Willis married Elizabeth Ann Simmons on June 19, 1960, in Kansas City, Kan. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Michael B., Pittsburg, and Bradford K., Edmond, Okla.; a brother, Warren, Lynchburg, Va.; and four grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to Sperry Galligar Audubon Society or Sunflower Kiwanis Club, sent in care of Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S.
