Harriet Lucile Cummins

Republic, Mo. – A celebration of life for Harriet Lucile Cummins, 70, Republic, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Meadors Funeral Home in Republic. Inurnment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Walnut Grove, Mo.Mrs. Cummins died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, in Springfield, Mo., from heart disease.She was born Oct. 8, 1938, in Topeka, Kan., the daughter of Donald Clay and Lucile Elsie Deming. She attended Southwest Missouri State University and Millikin College in Decatur, Ill.Mrs. Cummins was a teacher for 30 years and taught for 20 years in Republic. She was listed in Who’s Who Among Teachers. She was a past president of the Republic Retired Teachers Association and a member of 20th Century Club, the American Association of University Women and First Christian Church in Republic. She was an avid reader and enjoyed writing poetry.She married Alvin Roger Cummins on Jan. 31, 1969, in Mount Vernon, Mo. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, James R. Cummins and wife Eve, Lawrence; a daughter, Jennifer Konye, Michigan; a brother, Don Deming, Florida; a sister, Darlene Purtle, Michigan; and six grandchildren, including Cole, Bryson and Payton Cummins, all of Lawrence.The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.The family suggests memorials to the Harriet L.
