Cecil E. Vinyard

Memorial services for Cecil E. Vinyard, 64, Tonganoxie, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Tonganoxie. Private inurnment will be in Leavenworth National Cemetery.Mr. Vinyard died Monday, May 19, 2008, at the Tonganoxie Nursing Center. He was born Jan. 15, 1944, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Cecil F. and Wilma S. Lasley Vinyard. He served in the U.S. Army for 10 years and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a truck driver for Crouse Cartage Co. and a police officer in Tonganoxie. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9271, all in Tonganoxie, and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 41, Kansas City, Mo. He married Sophia Wyka on Aug. 8, 1964, in Kansas City, Mo. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Michael, Tonganoxie; three daughters, Vickie Vinyard, Pam Turner and Lisa Vinyard, all of Tonganoxie; a brother, Bill Sams, Sedalia, Mo.; a sister, JoAnn Cannon; 10 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
