William Dale “Bill” Neverve

Memorial services for William Dale “Bill” Neverve, 77, Gladstone, will be at 6 p.m. today at White Chapel in Gladstone. A celebration of life will follow at the Elks Lodge in Gladstone.Mr. Neverve died Saturday, May 17, 2008, of complications from open heart surgery.He was born March 7, 1931, in Wauneta, Neb., the son of Charles and Ethel Swanson Neverve. He attended Wauneta High, where he played basketball and football, and McCook Junior College. He received a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He was a longtime resident of the Kansas City area.Mr. Neverve served in the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division. He worked for Farmland Industries in the insurance department and retired in 1990 after 33 years. He was active in many organizations. He served as a scout leader to his sons’ troops and usher for North Cross United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion and Elks, where he served as treasurer for many years.Mr. Neverve enjoyed golfing and fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attended many of their school, scouting and athletic events. He also taught them to play golf and enjoy lake activities.He married Irma Jean Sandman on Sept. 9, 1951. She died in October 1992.Mr. Neverve was preceded in death by a brother, Jack, and three sisters, Charline, Arlene and Glenda.Survivors include three sons, Jerry and wife Sue Geoffrion Neverve, Lawrence, Kan.; Mike and Kathy, Kansas City, Mo.; Robin and Linda, Gladstone; a brother, Lamont, Westminster, Colo.; his longtime companion, Phyllis Hill, of the home; eight grandchildren, Brett, Eric, Chris, Ryan, Kevin, Nikki, Steve and Danielle; and a great-grandchild, AnnaMaria. The family suggests memorials to the Elks Scholarship Fund or H. R. Bartle Scout Camp, sent in care of the Heart of America Council, 10210 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131.
