Everett G. Hill 1926 - 2008 Leawood

Mass of Christian Burial for Everett G. Hill, 81, Overland Park, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cure of Ars Catholic Church in Leawood. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa.Mr. Hill died Wednesday, May 14, 2008, after a battle with cancer.He was born Sept. 19, 1926, in Lawrence, the son of Leo and Lillian Hill. He attended Lawrence High School, where he played football and basketball. He graduated from Kansas University, where he played basketball for Phog Allen during the 1944 and 1945 seasons.Mr. Hill served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked for TWA in the Personnel Department and then at Bendix/Allied Signal for 32 years as salary administrator. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he served as an elected officer in the fourth degree and a member of the Honor Guard. He volunteered for many organizations in Johnson County and worked with the American Association of Retired Persons as a member of their volunteer income tax assistance group. He and his wife delivered meals to the homebound across the county. He was a member of the K-Club and supported Kansas University through many donations and purchases of basketball and football season tickets. He attended all of the basketball team reunions conducted by Roy Williams and Bill Self. He enjoyed photography, woodworking, car repair, electrical and plumbing work at his home and for his friends and family.He married Audrey Sprong in 1953. They shared 54 years of marriage. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Michael and wife Virginia, Olathe, and Patrick and wife Carolyn, Blauvelt, N.Y.; a sister, Arlene Dieker, Modesto, Calif.; and a grandson, Everett Grayson.Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his parents.A wake will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at D.W.
