Ronald William Turner 1939 - 2008 Olathe
Memorial services for Ronald William Turner, 69, Overbrook, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Olathe.Mr. Turner died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Royal Terrace Skilled Nursing Rehabilitation Facility in Olathe from complications following a stroke.He was born Feb. 16, 1939, in Chicago, the son of Robert William and Eva Luraine Turner. He attended elementary and high school in Mooseheart, Ill. He received an undergraduate and master's degree from the University of Southern Illinois in Carbondale and a Ph.D. in mammalogy from Kansas University. He lived in Lawrence for 25 years.Mr. Turner served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1964. He was a professor of mammalogy at Benedictine College in Atchison from 1970 to 1972, a researcher for the World Health Organization in Indonesia against bubonic plague from 1972 to 1975, and became a curator of mammalogy at the Chicago Field Museum in 1978. He then worked as an insurance agent for American Family Insurance from 1980 to 1995 and an insurance investigator for the Kansas Insurance Commission from 1995 until he retired in 2002. He was a member of Moose Lodge.He married Karen Mueller in 1958. They divorced in 1966. He married Barbara Michener in 1970. They divorced in 1978. He married F. Jolene Anderson in 1979. They divorced in 1996. He married Doris Taylor in 1997. She died in 2001. He married Lynn Turner in 2003. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include three sons, Blaine, Illinois, Galen, Kansas City, Mo., and Zachary, Lawrence; a daughter, Michelle, Lawrence; two brothers, John and Paul; four sisters, Nona Olin, Rosemary Crowe, Kathryn Turner and Linda Turner; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
