Leoan Soper

Inurnment services for Leoan Soper, 88, Eudora, will be in De Soto at a later date. Mrs. Soper died Saturday, April 5, 2008, in Peoria, Ariz.She was born Dec. 19, 1919, in Derby, Iowa, the daughter of Cecil and Melvin Petty. She lived in Derby, Russell and Chariton, Iowa, and moved to Arizona in 2000.Mrs. Soper was a caregiver and worked for the Olathe Hospital and Good Samaritan Home in Olathe for many years. She later returned to work at the De Soto Nursing Home before she retired in 2000. She enjoyed caring for orphaned and unwanted animals of all kinds.She married Herbert E. Soper in Olathe. They shared 38 years of marriage. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Soper was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Wayne A., Leonard L., Clell R., and Richard V. Petty; and a sister, Kathryn M. Petty.Survivors include two sons, Melvin E. Soper and wife Pamela, Eudora, and Gary G. Soper and wife Denese, Peoria, Ariz.; a daughter, Janice L. Martin and husband Doug, Red Oak, Okla.; three sisters, Marjorie D. Davidson, Rock Island, Ill., Madge E. Foster, Des Moines, Iowa, Carole A. Abels, Bemidji, Minn.; five grandchildren, Angela Soper-Andrews, Lisa Grammer, Michael Todd Martin, April Dyson and Kassie Allen; and four great-grandchildren, Garrett and Kayden Dyson and Riley and Reese Allen.
