Charles William “Charlie” Childers

Private family inurnment services for Charles William “Charlie” Childers, 81, Perry, will be in Buster Cemetery in Oskaloosa.Mr. Childers died Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at his home.He was born Oct. 14, 1926, in Mount Ayre, Iowa, the son of Jack and Alta Marguerite Johnson Childers.Mr. Childers served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1945 as a seaman first class. He worked as a mechanic for the Hamm Co. in Perry for 32 years and retired in 1992. He was a member of Perry American Legion Post 142.He married Marlene Jo Kester on June 1, 1952, in Kansas City, Kan. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Stephen and David, both of Perry; a daughter, Pam Bateman, Perry; four brothers, Jack, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Eugene, Anaheim, Calif., Verle D., Oceanside, Calif., and Lenden, Stanton, Calif.; two sisters, Marguerite Henderson, Canton, Texas, and Marlene Williams, Hemet, Calif.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to Midland Hospice, 200 S.W.
