Nathan Gerald “Jerry” McGee

Graveside services for Nathan Gerald “Jerry” McGee, 88, Bonner Springs, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.Mr. McGee died Thursday, March 27, 2008, at his home. He was born Feb. 10, 1920, in Lawrence, the son of Nathan B. McGee and Grace Hadl Johnson. He attended Lawrence public schools. He lived in Lawrence until moving to Bonner Springs in 1967. Mr. McGee served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and fought in many major battles of the European Theater, including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. He received a Bronze Star.He worked as an electric line foreman at Kansas Power and Light in Lawrence and was later promoted to outside district manger in Bonner Springs. He worked for KP&L for 37 years and retired in 1982. The Bonner Springs Chamber of Commerce proclaimed the day he retired Jerry McGee Day.Mr. McGee was member of Church of Christ in Bonner Springs, the De Soto Veterans of Foreign Wars and Bonner Springs Chamber of Commerce, where he served as recruitment chairman. He was also a member and past president of the Optimist Club, Kiwanis Club and Rotary Club, all in Bonner Springs. He married Freida M. Baker on Oct. 11, 1945, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two daughters, Judy McPhie and husband Jack, Kamiah, Idaho, and Jan Missildine and husband Carl, Clearwater, Fla.; and seven grandchildren, Laurie, Kathy, Zachary, Sydney, Savannah, Thomas and Nathan.
