James Don Jones

Memorial services for James Don Jones, 83, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Clinton Parkway Assembly of God Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.Mr. Jones died Saturday, March 22, 2008, at his home. He had cancer.He was born Nov. 8, 1924, in Leavenworth, the son of Melvin and Vivian Jones. He was a graduate of Lawrence High School.Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for Hercules Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant for five years, Lawrence Sanitation Department for eight years and Ramsey’s Decorating Service for four years. He was employed by the Douglas County Health Department for 15 years and retired in 1986. He was a member of Clinton Parkway Assembly of God Church for more than 50 years.Mr. Jones married Nancy Johnson on Sept. 8, 1946, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a daughter, Lurlyne Smith and husband Don, Kansas City, Mo.; a son, Melvin Jones and wife Peggy, Stilwell; a brother, Robert Jones and wife Joanne, Lawrence; five granddaughters; and eight great-grandsons.Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.The family suggests memorials to the church or Midland Hospice, sent in care of Mt.
