Robert M. “Bob” Gibler Sr.

Graveside services for Robert M. “Bob” Gibler Sr., 79, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Clinton Cemetery.Mr. Gibler died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was born Oct. 29, 1928, in Lawrence, the son of Ivan William and Goldie Marie Schrable Gibler. He was a lifelong resident of Lawrence. Mr. Gibler was a freight truck driver for Graham Truck Lines and for Lawrence Freight Lines, where he retired after many years of service. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local 696 in Topeka. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served from 1946 to 1952 and in the 68th and 74th field artillery. He played in several bands, including the Landschute Cannoneers, Midwestern Country Gentlemen and Midnite Cowboys.He married Shirley Arlene Fleshman on May 28, 1955, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home. Other survivors include three sons, Robert M. “Bob” Gibler Jr., Jeffrey Wayde Gibler and Jody Clay Gibler, all of Lawrence; a daughter, Sharon Ann Eaden, Topeka; a sister, Charlotte Muckey, Lawrence; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.Friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Lawrence Funeral Chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions to Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship Music Program, sent in care of the funeral chapel.
