Kenneth Paul Gibler

Services for Kenneth Paul Gibler, 81, Baldwin City, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence. Burial will be in Vinland Cemetery.Mr. Gibler died Monday, March 10, 2008, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born July 15, 1926, near Lone Star, the son of John and Betha Wogan Gibler. He was a lifelong resident of Douglas County.Mr. Gibler served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper during World War II. He was a lifelong cattleman and worked in outside sales for Kuhn Trucks and Tractor and Derby Grain. He retired from All Star Dairy in 1988. He was a member of Vinland Church of Christ, where he served as treasurer. He was on the Vinland Fair Board for many years, including the board that started the tractor pull competitions that he announced for more than 40 years. He served on the Baldwin City school board for 16 years. He married Phyllis Jean Nichols on March 12, 1950, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Kent, Topeka, and Kevin, Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Pauletta Baxter, Little Rock, Ark., and Rhonda Hitchcock, Baldwin City; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.
