Daniel V. Goodman Jr. 1936 - 2008 Ozawkie

Funeral services for Daniel V. Goodman Jr., 71, Ozawkie, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence. Burial with military honors will follow in Muncie Cemetery in Ottawa.Mr. Goodman died Saturday, March 1, 2008, at his home after a long illness.He was born April 16, 1936, in Aberdeen, S.D., the son of Daniel V. Sr. and Sophia Longbull Goodman. He graduated from Provo High School, Igloo, S.D., where he led the Provo Rattlers to the 1954 basketball championship. He later graduated from the Utah State Police Academy and Haskell Indian Junior College and attended Kansas University. Mr. Goodman served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1964 and played on the Army football team. He served as a deputy for the Kickapoo Nation Tribal Police and a security guard for Haskell Indian Junior College. He worked for the city of Lawrence as a maintenance technician for several local apartment complexes. He was a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and an honorary member of the Kickapoo Tribe of Kansas. He bowled and played for Special Populations teams. He was a member of the Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, traveling, KU basketball, watching sports and spending time with his wife.Survivors include his wife, Cathy Spooner, of the home; two daughters, Yvonne Marie Goodman, Lawrence, and Melody Elaine Rothleutner, Box Elder, S.D.; two sons, Ron Brave, Lawrence, and Wesley Dillon, Rapid City, S.D.; a brother, Cedric, Pine Ridge, S.D.; and seven grandchildren, Chant and Inilia Brave, Jupiter, Mileena and Shadow Spooner, Curtis Williams and Shawna Dillon.He was preceded in death by a son, John, and two brothers, Vincent and Herb.The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.The family suggests memorials to the Provo High School Alumni Fund, sent in care of the funeral home.Online condolences may be sent at <a href="http://www.rumsey-yost.com">www.rumsey-yost.com</a>.
