LaVerna Mae Rollins

Services for LaVerna Mae Rollins, 80, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Baldwin City.Mrs. Rollins died Friday, June 20, 2008, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.She was born Aug. 7, 1927, in Topeka, the daughter of Lester Van and Grace Jane Jordan Workman. She attended Ottawa schools.She married Albert Lee Rollins on Sept. 22, 1944, in Newberg, Oregon. He died on June 7, 1970.Mrs. Rollins served on nursing staffs at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, Lawrence Memorial Hospital and at Lawrence nursing homes.She was a 45-year member of the Lawrence Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was active in the church’s genealogy programs. Mrs. Rollins raised and showed purebred bulldogs.Survivors include a son, Leslie “Butch” Rollins, Lawrence; two daughters, LaVerna L. Gray and husband Bill, Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and Susie Hackathorn and husband John, Lecompton; a sister, Eunice Reid, Neosho, Mo.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three nieces; and three nephews.A daughter, LeAnn Rollins and a sister, Barbara June Brown, died earlier.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.The family suggests memorials to the Lawrence Humane Society.
