John M. Sheley

Visitation for John M. Sheley, 52, Perry, is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. Burial will be at the Buster Cemetery at a later date.Mr. Sheley died Friday, June 20, 2008, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He had cancer.He was born May 25, 1956, in Topeka, the son of George Samuel and Frances Irene Frost Sheley. He was a lifelong resident of the Perry area. He attended school in Williamstown and Perry-LeCompton High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1974 to 1977. Mr. Sheley worked as a welder for Lacy Steel Company in Lawrence for many years. He had formerly worked at Welch Wood Products in Perry. He married Janie Fidler in 1982; they later divorced.Survivors include his mother, Perry; three sons, John Curtis, Perry, Joseph, Mesa, Ariz., and Dan, Perry; a stepson, Shannon Fidler, Winchester; a daughter, Cindy Sheley, Lawrence; two brothers, Edgar “Ed,” Las Vegas, and Ray, LeCompton; six sisters, Maureen Groves Long, Topeka, Georgia Ann Leeman, Topeka, Wilma Brooks, Meriden, Peggy Nicholson, Barnesville, Ga., Deborah Summerville, Perry, and Kay Gannon, Perry; and a stepgranddaughter.
