Lois Pauline Caffyn

Services for Lois Pauline Caffyn, 95, Topeka, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Wesley Hall at Aldersgate Village. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Clinton Cemetery.Ms. Caffyn died Thursday, June 12, 2008, at Aldersgate Village in Topeka.She was born May 8, 1913, in Iowa Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Jesse Roland and Lillian May Dickman Caffyn. She graduated from Norman High School in Oklahoma in 1930. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Kansas University in 1935 and a master’s degree from KU in 1944. Ms. Caffyn was an English and foreign language teacher. She taught extension courses for KU at Atchison County Community High School in 1937 and taught in public high schools throughout Kansas from 1937 to 1957. She was a statewide language-arts specialist in the Kansas State Department of Education and served Kansas elementary and secondary schools from 1957 until her retirement in 1978.She was a member of the National Council of Teachers of English, the National Association of State English and reading Specialists, the Kansas Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National ACSD and Kansas Women in School Administration. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Topeka. She was also part of the Employed Women’s Group and Wesleyan Service Guild, and the American Association of University Women in which she chaired a creative writing group at the Topeka Branch.
