Virginia Mae Fuller Shaffer 1921 - 2008 Pratt

Funeral services for Virginia Mae Fuller Shaffer, 86, Pratt, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Pratt, with chaplain Fred Pinkerton officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Pratt.Mrs. Shaffer died Wednesday, June 11, 2008, in Pratt.She was born Sept. 15, 1921, on a farm east of Kechi in Sedgwick County, the daughter of Carl S. and Anna Klassen Fuller. She grew up in Wichita and graduated from Wichita East High School in 1939. She was a longtime resident of Pratt.Mrs. Shaffer worked as a bookkeeper, library clerk and Singer sewing machine sales clerk. She was an active member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, Methodist Church Women United and the church choir. She also volunteered at Pratt Regional Medical Center. She enjoyed golf, crocheting, word puzzles, game shows, sports, especially Kansas University basketball and Royals baseball, and spending time with friends and family.Mrs. Shaffer married Cecil R. Shaffer on Dec. 31, 1941, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He died July 9, 1974. She was also preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Gerald Dean Shaffer; two grandsons, Kenneth A. and Gregory T. Shaffer; her infant twin sisters, Minnie and Fern Fuller; a brother, Ernest Fuller; and a sister, Louise Nault.Survivors include two sons, Richard Shaffer and wife Harriet, Lawrence, and Robert Shaffer and wife Linda, Cascade, Colo.; two daughters, Patricia Owens, Lawrence, and Phyllis McCart, Wichita; eight grandchildren, Susan Fagan, Steve Shaffer, Carol Birnbaum, Angela and Cameron Owens, and Ryan, Tracy and Whitney McCart; 10 great-grandchildren; Erin and Max Fagan, Marissa and Andrea Eisenhauer, Chandler Owens, Ryann and Matthew Shaffer, Philip McCart, Landon Debbas and Andrew Birnbaum; two brothers, Clarence and Earl Fuller, both of Wichita; a sister, Ruby Ruhland, Napa, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Thelma Shaffer Hall, Pratt; and many nieces and nephews.Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ayres-Calbeck Mortuary in Pratt.The family suggests memorials to Southwind Hospice in Pratt, sent in care of the funeral home, 115 E.
