James Thomas Jennings Jr.

Funeral services for James Thomas Jennings Jr., 95, Kansas City, Mo., will be at 2 p.m. today at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Jennings died Thursday, July 24, 2008.He was born July 24, 1913, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of J.T. Sr. and Nell Jennings. He graduated from Kansas University in 1935 with a degree in engineering. He was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Mo., and was a patient at Kingswood Health Center for a month.Mr. Jennings worked at Butler Manufacturing Co. for more than 40 years in the engineering department and later in the purchasing department. He retired in 1983. He was a member of Sigma Tau and Tau Beta Pi honorary fraternities and Phi Kappa Psi social fraternity. He served on the Board of Directors of the Kansas City Blind Association. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth “Betty,” of 69 years; two sons, James Thomas III and wife Mary Ann, Lawrence, and John Stephen and wife Duana, Leawood; six grandchildren, Robin Liston, Jamie and Callie Jennings, Wendy Grinstead, Karry Salvino and Erin Fela; and 11 great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. today at the chapel before the services.The family suggests memorials to the Kingswood Foundation, 10000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64114 or a charity of the donor’s choice.Online condolences may be sent at www.dwnewcomers.com.
