Robert Lynn “Bob” Hailey

Funeral services for Robert Lynn “Bob” Hailey, 79, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. at Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Mo. Graveside services will follow in IOOF Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Memorial services will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Indian Lodge, Touch of Nature, in Carbondale, Ill.Mr. Hailey died Sunday, July 13, 2008, in Lawrence.He was born May 9, 1929, in Lawrence County, Mo., the son of Fred and Marie Boucher Hailey. He moved to Mount Vernon at age 6. He attended the University of Missouri, where he played football from 1947 to 1950.Mr. Hailey was a coach and teacher. He coached football in Odessa, Liberty and Carthage, Mo., at Kansas State University, Raytown South High School in Raytown, Mo., and Southern Illinois University, from which he retired. He continued to work for the health education department and assisted in the football programs at surrounding schools after he retired. He was an active member and deacon at Walnut Street Baptist Church in Carbondale. He enjoyed giving words of encouragement, playing games and fishing. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty; two sons, Russell Hailey and wife Diane, Lawrence, and Mark Hailey and wife Pat, Baxley, Ga.; two daughters, Nancy Zinkgraf and husband Fred, New Braunfels, Texas, and Susan Knauf and husband Preston, Winter Haven, Fla.; a sister, Betty Shine and husband Jack, Newton Grove, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home before the services.The family suggests memorials to a local Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Red Cross chapter or the Southern Baptist International Mission Board, sent in care of the funeral home, 510 E.
