Clyde D. Tryon

Funeral services for Clyde D. Tryon, 88, Perry, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Perry United Methodist Church. Burial with military honors and Masonic services will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Perry.Mr. Tryon died Monday, July 14, 2008, at his home.He was born Dec. 29, 1919, in Wheaton, the son of Corbin John and Emma Jean Swickard Tryon. He graduated from Perry Rural High School in 1937. He attended Emporia State Teachers College and Kansas State University. Mr. Tryon served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the Pacific Campaign. He was stationed on the island of Saipan and flew many missions as a gunner on B-29 bombers. He worked as an electrician at the Goodyear tire plant in Topeka and retired in September 1979 after 32 years of service. He served eight years on the Perry City Council and was a Boy Scout leader for many years. He recently received plaques honoring his 60 years as an active member of Perry American Legion Post 142 and Perry Masonic Lodge 415 A.F. & A.M. He was a longtime member of Perry United Methodist Church and also a member of Golden Pizza Coffee Club in Perry.He married Retha Ellen Dick on Aug. 9, 1942, in Perry. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Dennis D., Ozawkie; a daughter, Carol and Herb Chelton, Houston; a brother, Charles Tryon, Marysville; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the church.
