James William "Popcorn" Phares 1923 - 2008 Wellsville

Graveside services for James William "Popcorn" Phares, 85, Wellsville, will be at 11 a.m. today in Wellsville Cemetery.Mr. Phares died Monday, July 7, 2008, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born April 1, 1923, in Rantoul, the son of Arthur Earl and Rebecca Wilcox Phares. He grew up near Wellsville on the family farm and attended Wellsville High School. Mr. Phares did mechanical maintenance for many years in and around Wellsville. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.He married Bettie Louise Hilton on Sept. 1, 1942, in Olathe. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Mike; two daughters, Pam Phares, Wellsville, and Leslie Taylor, Rose Hill; a sister, Frances Warnock, Ottawa; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.Mr. Phares was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Monty Guy; a brother, Harold; and two sisters, Dorothy and Betty.The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. today at Wilson's Funeral Home in Wellsville before the services.
